The first thing

Play is the oldest state of being

We only give it a room to happen in again.

What it is

Each evening is built around a single figure: someone who lived, made something, and left a particular kind of silence behind. We take their century, their music, their manners, and raise a house around them for one night only. The eras change. The languages change. The light changes. One thing does not: you walk in as one person and out as a slightly different one.

Arcanum is an evening with no audience in it.

It is not a game, there is nothing to solve. It is not a play, there is nothing to watch from a seat. It sits closer to ritual, but asks for no belief and holds you to nothing. You simply agree to be someone else for a couple of hours and see what comes of it.

Twelve evenings make a season.

They run across centuries and forms: a saint, a screen actress, a poet, a voice that belongs to no genre at all. Some evenings are medieval and cold. Some are candlelit drawing rooms. Some are closer to a nightclub than a chapel. Held together they make one long argument about what a person is when nobody is keeping score.

FAQ

Is this a theatre performance?

No. It is a curated evening in which each person appears however they wish. Speak or stay silent, make a choice or leave it unmade. We provide the circumstances, the period, the story. You remain yourself, with everything you already are.

Will I have to play a role? Do I need to prepare?

Neither. There is no script to learn and no character assigned to you. Come as you are and meet the evening on your own terms. Whatever you do with it is the right amount.

Where is it?

Central London, Fitzrovia. A small but warm historic townhouse. The exact address goes only to confirmed guests.

What do I need to bring?

Yourself, and an openness to the era and the situation you are stepping into. We strongly recommend following the dress code.

Can I come alone?

Most people do. The evening is built for strangers as much as for pairs. Coming alone costs you nothing and often gives you more.

Does joining the list mean I have a place?

Not yet. The list is how we reach you first. When an evening opens we write, and your place is confirmed from there.
